About the job

Dunham House is a residential Life Skills Development program for people experiencing substance abuse and/or concurrent mental health disorders.

Dunham House provides a common core program for all residents which includes educational workshops and extra-curricular readings, individual counselling, and group discussions. Each of these program characteristics contributes to providing the resident with knowledge and awareness in designing a meaningful life plan.


Our approach in assisting our residents is based on various evidence-based strategies which include cognitive and behavioural techniques, motivational interviewing and solution focused strategies based on a community environment.


Duties:

· Counsel residents individually, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
· Complete and maintain accurate records and reports regarding the clients’ histories and progress, services provided, and other required information
· Develop client treatment plans based on research, clinical experience, and client histories.
· Review and evaluate clients’ progress in relation to measurable goals described in treatment and care plans.
· Intervene and advocate for clients in order to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
· Modify treatment plans to comply with changes in client status.
· Coordinate counselling efforts with mental health professionals and other health professionals such as doctors, nurses, and social workers.
· Attend training sessions in order to increase knowledge and skills.
· Plan and implement follow-up and aftercare programs for clients to be discharged from treatment program (exit plan)
· Participate in case conferences and staff meetings.
· Perform other related duties as requested by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications:

· Hold a college degree (DEC) in a counselling related field with 5 years’ experience or minimum of a university degree (B.A.) in a counselling related field with 2 years clinical experience.
· Bilingualism
· CPR certification (asset)
